Place Value

September 13, 2014

My second graders have been working on place value for the last several weeks.  I want to share some of my favorite resources for teaching place value.

Here is a great video to introduce place value.

I love Mrs. Olson’s interactive notebooks.  I like to use these for a quick assessment to see which of my students need extra practice with me on on a specific skill.  My students loved working on their interactive notebook.  Click on the place value pictures below for your freebie from Mrs. Olson’s Lucky Little Learners.
For a quick review, I like to use this SMART Board activity with my students from FlapJack Educational Resources.
A few weeks ago we made these adorable place value monsters.  At the time, we were only working with tens and ones. They would be really cute if you added arms and legs to the monsters.   Click here for the patterns for the place value monsters.  Click here for the I am Expanding form.
My class is also busy solving math journals prompts by drawing models.  Click here for your free math journal prompts for second grade.

Great sources! Thank you for sharing. I have several students still struggling with place value. The more practice, the better!
