Christmas Stem Activites

December 16, 2015

Today we had STEM Fest at our school.  We were little engineers all day long.  My class made a shelf for an elf, a parachute for Santa and watched a candy cane experiment. I purchased this awesome December STEM  packet from Brooke Brown on TPT.  The activities are challenging and recording sheets are provided in the packet.  My students loved doing science experiments all day long.

The candy cane experiment was a FREEBIE from Guide Teach Inspire.  The students enjoyed watching how candy canes are made.

They enjoyed all the activities, but creating a parachute for Santa was their favorite.  They first started making the parachute with a coffee filter.  Then I gave them more materials and they had to improve on their design.  They used wrapping paper for the parachute and Popsicle sticks to help keep the paper open.

Everyone was actively involved and engaged in the activities which made my day so easy!  These activities are great for this time of the year!

What type of science experiments do you do in your classroom?  I would love to hear your ideas!
