Snowman Activities and Freebies

January 1, 2017

I love doing snowman activities even though I teach in Southern California.   I am lucky to get a view of the snow-capped mountains from my classroom.

Directed Snowman Drawing

My students enjoy painting. First, we practice drawing our snowman.  After a few tries, we are ready to use permanent marker.  The eyes and mouth is colored in with the permanent marker. We used kids paint with glitter for the scarf and the headband on the hat.  Everything looks better with a little glitter!  Then we used watercolors for the rest of our pictures.

Free Winter Math Riddles

We are reviewing 2-digit addition and subtraction since we have been out of school for 3 weeks.  My students have fun completing the riddles.  I love it when they start to laugh at the answers.  Grab your FREE copy of snowman math riddles here.

Winter Math Worksheets for 2nd grade

My students love little books.  It feels more special to them when it is in a book rather than a single math worksheet–not to mention there is less clutter in their desk.  This Winter Fun Book reviews math and language arts skills needed for second grade.  The skills covered in this book include balancing equations, 2-digit addition & subtraction, mental math, punctuation, present and past tense verbs, nouns, adjectives, synonyms & antonyms, contractions, and much more.

Spiral review for second grade

Here are some winter math centers that my students enjoy playing after they complete their math.  It is a great way to review math skills and see who needs extra help.  This math center includes balancing equations, telling time, 3-digit addition & subtraction with regrouping, counting money, mental math, skip counting, missing addends, and place value.

How to Make a Snowflake

Pinterest is a great place for ideas.  We had fun making these snowflakes using borax.
