Back to School Activities and Freebies

July 3, 2019

Are you like me and busy checking Instagram and Pinterest for Back to School activities and freebies?  Even though I have been teaching for many years, I get bored doing the same thing year after year.  Plan your first week of school with some of my favorite back-to-school activities and freebies.

Back to School Ideas for the First Week of School

The first week of school is always exciting and very exhausting.  These fun and exciting ideas will help your class run smoothly. Check out some of these amazing Back to School Freebies.
First Week of School label
I like to get all of my copies and put them in a small Sterlite bin.  I put this First Week of School label on it from Samantha Henry.  She has also included a school calendar to put in it to keep you organized.

Back to School letter

I love this scratch-off Jackpot Class Reveal from Kristina Zucchino.  The students will have so much fun getting this in the mail and seeing who they have in their class.

Free Superhero Positive Notes

I like to put these positive rock star notes on Astrobright paper.  The students love getting surprise notes on their desks.

Scholastic Book Club is a great way to get bonus points and get free books for your classroom library.  I love these FREE notes from All About 3rd Grade.

First Day Icebreaker Activity

Find a Friend is a great icebreaker for the first day of school.  Pictures are on it to help those students that struggle in reading.  You can get this First Day of School Icebreaker by clicking here.

Morning Work for Second Grade

I always do a school tour with Pete the Cat.  My students enjoy singing “Rocking in my School Shoes”.  I made these math review sheets that you can use for the first month of school.

These editable nameplates are a great reference tool for my students.  You can get these FREE name tags from Teaching in the Tongass.  You will need to sign up to get access to this freebie.

My dear friend, Peggy Means from Primary Flourish, has these cute morning slides in her resource library.  Students know exactly what is expected of them as they start the school day.

A Dab of Glue has these punch cards for positive behavior.  It is a great motivator for positive behavior.

Jessica Winston from the Teaching Oasis has these adorable weekly parent letters.  The best part is they are editable and free.

I always give this Reading at Home newsletter to my parents at Open House or at conference time.  You can grab this amazing resource from All Students Can Shine.

Sailing into Second has this new student kit.  You put everything in a Ziploc bag so everything is ready when you get a new student added to your class.
